Background: The original promoter of the idea was (and is) very actively engaged in fundraising for several charities and a special needs school. The challenge was how to raise several hundreds of thousands of urgently needed Euro for very deserving charity organisations. With more than 10 years experience in the provision of IT Security solutions to the corporate and home user markets, an idea was born.

The Future: Our Children’s generation will be infinitely more dependent on electronic communications and electronic social interaction than their parent’s generation. For previous generations, “computers” was something which was learnt in school, or when joining the workforce. Not so for the current generation of children. Home computers are no longer about simply typing a letter or keeping the family budget on a spreadsheet. Now they are a primary communications device and keeper of the invaluable family album. Just ask yourself “when was the last time I wrote a letter” and then “when was the last time I sent an email”. How many people still use Teletext more often than a computer search engine. Even the Telephone directory is beginning to feel decidedly unemployed. Internet Banking and paperless utility billing is now the norm, not the exception. The world has moved to an “On-Line” model.

Today’s children will become adults in a significantly different world than that of their parents. Computers and Personal Communications Devices (which used to be a mobile phone) will be the central point of an On-Demand, Real-Time world. Tomorrow’s young adults that haven’t become part of the on-line generation will be disadvantaged.

Home Computers will become part of Personal home networks with synchronisation between all the various personal devices in the family, and most likely connected to secure extended family and friends’ networks, potentially even being directly synchronised with local and central government information and interaction services. Having a computer in the house is one thing, but understanding how it interacts with different levels of security will be essential to everyone.
Google, YouTube, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo, MSN, Bebo, Facebook, Twitter, linkedin, and an almost infinite number of other Internet Based sites are now part of our daily lives. These names didn’t exist 15 or 20 years ago. Now they have become part of the official English dictionary. The world of communications and personal interaction has moved on.

The computer industry itself is already on the precipice of the next big quantum shift. “The Cloud” or “Cloud Computing” is no longer a theoretical aspiration. More and more computer applications and interactions are being “hosted” on the web rather than being a software application which is installed locally on the computer. The children’s computer games companies have been early adaptors, with sites such as Club Penguin, Gizmoz, Cbeebies, and Disney offering a vast amount of interactive entertainment and games… online. There is no going back or getting away from it… online is here to stay and is becoming the norm.

ReassureMe.com’s initial concept is very straight forward.
