Instant Messenger Recording and Monitoring

Children viewing inappropriate content on the internet is unwelcome, but potentially the most serious threat to our children is the predatory paedophile.

If you review some of the video clips in Why Do I need ReassureMe.Com? on the home page, you will see that there are several well documented cases of situations where children have been contacted through Instant Messenger or chat rooms by adults pretending to be like-minded little children.

Parents asked us if there was some way we could help them to protect their children from this dreadful scenario.

Our solution was to give parents the ability to either:

• Completely ban Instant Messenger
• Apply a Time Control to only allow IM at times when a parent can be in close proximity, or
• Give parents the ability to review the IM chat conversations by means of recording.

As this technology may be considered invasive on the child’s privacy, ReassureMe.com strongly urges parents to be very open and upfront with their children and let them know that a child safety system is in use on the home computers and encourage children to discuss their computer and internet experiences with their parents.
